2017 Review

Our third Global Health Crossover Lab took place on 05-07 December 2017; six teams were selected and spent three days developing global health immersive media projects, supported by our partners Crossover and their network of expert mentors. Each team then pitched to a panel of global health and media experts at the Global Health Film Festival with a chance of securing £5,000 in development funding, generously supported by The Lancet.

We are delighted to announce that the 2017 award went to Parwaz, an authored, autobiographical VR story about 9-year old Ahmad, who fled from Afghanistan to the UK with his brother and of his dream to become a pilot. Parwaz, led by film-maker Katie Barlow, will use their development award to create the next stage of the project: the building of 5 x 3D landscapes of Ahmad and Jawad’s drawings, created from memory, along with photos of their journey. They will present their progress at the 2018 Global Health Film Festival - and we will be announcing those dates by the end of February.
